African Achievers Award

 The Importance of recognising and appreciating the efforts & contributions of Africans to the improvement of their continent cannot be grossly undermined. This is because, it not only opens up opportunities for more from the contributors, but also serve as motivation for others to do the same.
   It is certainly with much pleasure that i've taken up the opportunity to write about the African   Achievers Award 2014 edition which took place at the Presidential Banquet Hall, Accra, Ghana on the 28th February, 2014.

 The event which kick-started with an opening glee of Ghana's national anthem had 
no dull moment as different African acts treated the high profile guests at the 

event to some awe inspiring performances. 

 Also memorable was the superlative show put up by Bloomberg Tv personality, 
Savannah Nightingale and ‘Nigeria’s Got Talent Host’ Andrea Blaze Henshaw who 
anchored the award ceremony. 
They kept the audience smiling all through the award ceremony. 


Quite remarkable were the various awards bestowed on some Africans who through their outstanding performances in varying endeavours have written their names in the sand of history. 
The criteria leading to the qualification of an African for the award was however spelt out by Ambassador David James Egwu when he presented the organizers speech on behalf of the Principal partner, Tonye Rex Idaminabo.




 Among those recognised at the event were;
1   Mandela Rhodes Foundation received an award as Charity Organisation of the Year. 
2   While, award for Excellence in Diaspora went to Charlotte Simon, Mother of Congo, a 

     trustee of the Tatana Give Out Foundation. 

3 In-addition, Moggesukkel Foundation received the award for Charity Organisation,‘’Making a difference in Africa’’. 

4   Under the Media Entertainment Category, Mr John Momoh, Chairman/CEO Channels 
     Television received an award on behalf of his television station as African Best TV of the  Year,        
5   While the late BBC World News anchor, Komla Afeke Dumor was honoured with a posthumous award for Excellence in Broadcasting. 
5  Mr Tony Akiotu, GMD Daar Communications (parent company of AIT International) was also awarded as African Journalist of the Year. 

6   Under Education and Training category, Professor Tolly Mbwette of the Open University      (Tanzania) was recognized as Education personality in Africa. 
7   Meanwhile, Hamza Ibrahim Nasko, CEO of the HMG Group was named African Young 
Achiever of the Year. 
8  Under the movie category, Oliver Litondo a Kenyan born Hollywood Actor won the African Movie Excellence, 
9  While Ghanaian Movie Actress, Nadua Buari was recognized for the strides her NGO had made in the last three years. 

10 The award for Creativity and Enterprise was presented to the Managing Director, Federal Mortgage Bank for his innovation in business and Strategy. 
11 Also, under the category for Business and Enterprise, the Creator and developer of VIP Express 

Sandra Isabella Wilcox was awarded for Organization making a difference in Africa,
12  One other remarkable award at the occasion was that of articulator of African philosophy and pillar of education in African which was given to Rev. Father, Prof. E.M.P Edeh, CSSP, OFR. 
Four Nigerian Governors were also recognised.


This event was beautiful, colourful and Inspiring all in one. I won't leave without saying a massive well-done to all the Organisers and everyone involved in making it a success. To all the awardees as-well, congratulations! we're all so proud of you and all you're doing, only God can truly reward you as much as you deserve.
